Sign the Petition and Tell Barack Obama: Don't Betray Israel

President Obama has announced his support of returning Israel and Palestine to the pre-war borders of 1967--borders that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called "indefensible." This announcement was an unprecedented act and is yet another example of his policy of blaming Israel first.  President Obama's course is a rapid and drastic departure from previous U.S. policy. These actions are totally unacceptable.  Abandoning decades of peacemaking efforts,  this plan is a return to the failed past and would heavily jeopardize Israeli security and stability in an already unstable Middle East.

Americans know that a safer Israel is a safer world, and expect our President to put his best foot forward towards accomplishing this goal. Unfortunately it is now very clear Barack Obama simply does not support one of America's closest allies.

Israel needs the support of the American people now more than ever. Take a stand today and sign the petition to tell Barack Obama: Don't betray Israel.

President Obama said last Thursday the United States believes Israel should go back to the 1967 borders as part of the peace agreement with the Palestinian Authority. In a very unexpected move, on Friday, Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said "Thanks, but no, thanks!"

The main reason for this is the 1967 borders are simply non-defensible! Israel is surrounded by enemies on every side. The recent uprisings in Egypt, as well as protests in Egypt, as well as Jordan are giving way to anti-Israel protests in both countries.

While President Mubarak was tolerant towards Israel and kept the peace agreement with her, and King Abdullah still is, the forces on the ground are taking advantage of the mass demonstrations and inciting the people against Israel, demanding to break these agreements and destroy Israel.

MK Katz Warns AIPAC, ‘Obama Put a Gun to Israel’s Head’

“Don’t fall for U.S. President Barack Obama’s magical oratory. He put a gun to Israel’s head and asked it to commit suicide,” National Union chairman and Knesset Member Yaakov (Ketzaleh) Katz MK wrote the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) Sunday.

The legislator continued, “I urge you not to be captured by his magic tongue because he actually is asking you for your votes and your money.”

President Obama is scheduled to address the annual AIPAC convention in Washington Sunday night, and Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu will speak the following night. Both leaders traded opposing policy views in their weekend meeting at the White House, particularly on the borders of Israel, which the Palestinian Authority and President Obama want shrunk to those that existed as the temporary Armistice Lines in 1949 until the Six-Day War in 1967.

MK Katz wrote to AIPAC committee members, “The People of Israel, in the Diaspora for 2,000 years, developed a sense of who loves us and who hates us. President Obama knows very well that former Israeli Foreign Minister Abba Eban described the 1967 borders as ‘Auschwitz borders.’”

The National Union chairman noted that Israeli news polls show that an overwhelming majority of Israel view President Obama as hostile to Israel.

“The People of Israel will not fall for the false charm of posters, slogans, cellophane wrappers of sweetened drugs of death", he concluded.

Obama's Mistake

Yesterday Israel went into a shock after hearing President Obama's speech about the U.S. policy in the Middle East. Obama's words, especially on the eve of Prime Minister Netanyahu's visit to Washington, were another blow below the belt to our country.

   While the majority of his speech concentrated on the recent developments in the Middle East - the uprising of the people, wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, Iran's nuclear ambitions and death of Bin Laden, the President "saved the best for last."

   Here are the main highlights of what Obama said about Israel.

   "...At a time when the people of the Middle East and North Africa are casting off the burdens of the past, the drive for a lasting peace that ends the conflict [between Israel and the Palestinians] ...is more urgent than ever.

   ...A lasting peace will involve two states for two peoples. Israel as a Jewish state and the homeland for the Jewish people, and the state of Palestine as the homeland for the Palestinian people; each state enjoying self-determination, mutual recognition, and peace.

   The United States believes that... the borders of Israel and Palestine should be based on the 1967 lines... so that secure and recognized borders are established for both states.

   As for security, every state has the right to self-defense, and Israel must be able to defend itself - by itself - against any threat. ...That is the choice that must be made..."

   We believe this speech cleary illustrates how little Mr. Obama understands about the history of the region [especially the 'Palestinians' who have never been a nation], the current situation in the region, the religion of Islam, and the goal of every Muslim country to destroy Israel.

   Israel will not be secure within the 1967 borders. (To remind you, these borders were drawn after Israel won the Six Day War, acquiring Gaza, the West Bank, the Golan Heights and East Jerusalem - including the Old City of Jerusalem.)

   These proposed borders will reduce Israel's territory to about 12 miles wide in the narrowest part [which is also adjacent to the most populated area of the coast] - which will give the enemy the possibility to cut the north of the country from its south within minutes!

   Returning Jerusalem will mean dividing our nation's capital and giving up the most holy places to Jews (and Christians) to Palestinian control. Have you seen what they have done to holy sites already under their control?  Israel will never agree to that.

   Returning the Golan Heights to Syria will mean giving a very strategic region to Hizbullah, who is openly calling for Israel's destruction. Syria will also be able to cut off Israel's fresh water supply very quickly.

   We all have seen what returning Gaza to the Palestinians achieved - a barrage of rockets on our southern cities as well as Hamas' election to rule the Gaza strip. Hamas is also openly calling for Israel's destruction. Moreover, with the events in Egypt, Israel now fears that the transfer of weapons from Egypt to Hamas in Gaza will be as easy as throwing a stone over the fence.

   The majority of the West Bank is now under the Palestinian rule, and though billions of American tax-payers' dollars are flowing to PA, poverty and unemployment continue as usual. The Jewish settlers are being attacked right and left, and putting the entire West Bank under PA control will only bring the enemy closer to the gates of Israel.

   On the Biblical front, we see this speech as a very dangerous move for the U.S.

   The Lord promises judgment on nations that will try to divide Israel's land, and, unfortunately, this is exactly what the current administration has set as one of its goals.

   What can you do?

   Right now you can contact the White House and your representatives in Washington, demanding that the U.S. treat Israel as the ally it is, and stop pressing the 1967 borders issue.

   Most importantly, you can PRAY. Prayer changes things.

   Pray for President Obama. God can change his heart. Pray that he will listen to Godly counsel.

   Pray for all countries who are coming against Israel - that they will turn away from their wickedness. Repent on behalf of your countries that God may heal your lands.

   Most of all, pray for the Peace of Jerusalem - not peace as the world wants to see it, but peace that God desires.

On Sunday, May 15^th, people across the country and around the world celebrated Israel Independence Day.   It was on May 14, 1948 – sixty-three years ago – that Israel’s leaders declared the restoration of Jewish sovereignty in their ancient land after centuries of exile.

But for multitudes in the Arab and Muslim world, May 15^th is not a day to celebrate.  They have a different name for Israel Independence Day.  They call it “al-Nakba” – the catastrophe.  And indeed, for hundreds of thousands of Palestinians, Israel’s birth did ultimately prove to be a catastrophe.  During Israel’s war of independence, approximately 600,000 Palestinian Arabs became refugees.  Some fled out of fear of the battles raging in their backyards.  Some were forced out by their own leaders.  And, yes, some were forced out by the Israeli military.

But here’s an interesting question that the Nakba mourners prefer to dodge:  Who started the war?  There would not have been one Palestinian refugee – not one – had the Arabs not launched a war of aggression to destroy the Jewish State immediately after its birth.  The Jews had agreed to divide the land into two states – one Jewish and one Arab.  It was the Palestinians who rejected this compromise and tried to conquer all of the land for themselves.
There’s an old Jewish joke that the definition of chutzpah (“nerve”) is to murder your parents and then throw yourself on the mercy of the court as an orphan.  The same applies to those who attacked Israel in an effort to destroy it and then complained about the manner in which Israel dared to defend itself.
Here, for example, is how Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas described these historic events in an op-ed published in today’s New York Times.  “It is important to note that the last time the question of Palestinian statehood took center stage at the General Assembly, the question posed to the international community was whether our homeland should be partitioned into two states. In November 1947, the General Assembly made its recommendation and answered in the affirmative.  Shortly thereafter, Zionist forces expelled Palestinian Arabs to ensure a decisive Jewish majority in the future state of Israel, and Arab armies intervened. War and further expulsions ensued.”
Not even close, Mr. President.  When the United Nations recommended dividing Palestine into two states – one Jewish and one Arab – in November, 1947, the Jews not only accepted the compromise, but they danced in streets with joy.  It was the Palestinians who rejected the deal.  Within hours of the United Nations vote, they launched a civil war against Jewish towns and cities across the country.  When the Israelis survived this initial onslaught and declared their independence on May 14th, 1948, they once again celebrated.  The next day, five Arab armies invaded Israel in an effort to finish the job the Palestinians had started.
In each case, Israelis made a choice.  They decided to fight for their survival.  This meant taking up arms and using them.  The one thing all veterans can agree upon is that war is hell.  And wars also have consequences.  Just ask the mothers of the one percent of Israel’s population who fell in this war of Arab aggression.  These boys (and in many cases girls) never came home.  They have no right of return.
Israel isn’t perfect.  It’s important to criticize the mistakes Israel makes in its struggle to survive.  It’s fair to point out that the Israelis – who are men, not angels – committed some atrocities as they frantically fought for their survival.  But to overlook the context within which these battles took place sheds no light.  It’s D-Day without the Nazi Blitzkrieg.  It’s Iwo Jima without Pearl Harbor.  It’s less than half the story.  And it’s a lie.
As Nobel Peace Laureate Elie Wiesel has noted, the Palestinian people do have good reason to be angry.  But they shouldn’t be angry at Israel.  They should be angry at their grandparents who could have had a Palestinian state back in 1948 but chose not to compromise.  And, I would add, they should be angry at their parents who could have had a Palestinian state in 2000 and again in 2008 (when offered by Israeli Prime Ministers Barak and Olmert, respectively) but likewise refused to compromise.
Why was Israel’s birth a catastrophe for so many Palestinians?  Because the Palestinians lost the war that they started to destroy Israel.  Had they chosen a different path – the path of peace and mutual recognition — May 15^th would have had a different name.  It would be known today as Palestinian Independence Day.
