My heart breaks for the Jewish residents of Kharkiv, Ukraine, and for the hundreds of thousands of others like them in the FSU, Israel and around the world, who carry the scars and the burden of the memories of unspeakable Nazi atrocities. And I am deeply saddened for the thousands of survivors who now, in the twilight of their years, still find themselves living in heart wrenching conditions and abject poverty.

April 8 is Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day, when we honor these survivors who have suffered so much, we honor the families lost, and vow it can never happen again. I invite you to light a candle of remembrance to honor their memory, so that we never forget.
