The Jerusalem Prayer Team is getting ready to launch one of the biggest and most important efforts in our history to help save Jerusalem. The Jerusalem DC (David’s Capital) Campaign is essential because America is being led further and further away from support of the Holy City and of Israel by the current administration.
For more than 3,000 years, Jerusalem has been recognized as the capital of the Jewish people. Yet today, the Obama Administration, in defiance of a law passed by Congress in 1995, refuses to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of the nation of Israel. Every other nation in the world is allowed to designate its own capital city…except for the Jewish state.
The stance of the administration was made crystal clear recently when the State Department issued an official press release that read as follows: “Acting Under Secretary Kathleen Stephens Travels to Algeria, Qatar, Jordan, Jerusalem, and Israel.” The release was quickly scrubbed after the glaring violation of the Jerusalem Embassy Act of 1995, which recognizes Jerusalem (the entire and undivided city of Jerusalem) as the capital of Israel, was pointed out by critics.
But this was no innocent oversight or accidental reference. The Obama Administration last year scrubbed all references to Jerusalem being part of Israel from the official White House website. And President Obama has continued to refuse to move the American embassy to Jerusalem, despite the law passed by Congress. At a recent press briefing, State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland was asked about the status of Jerusalem and said, “Our policy with regard to Jerusalem is that it has to be solved through negotiations. We are not going to prejudge the outcome of those negotiations, including the final status of Jerusalem.”
That’s why we are launching the Jerusalem DC (David’s Capital) Campaign. We are calling on the leaders of Congress to insist that the Administration follow existing law and recognize Jerusalem—the entire, undivided Holy City—as the capital of Israel, and to do so publicly. Soon I will ask you to join me in signing the petition to the President and our leaders, but right now I urgently need your help to launch this campaign.
In order to make this campaign as effective as it needs to be and reach our goal of one million petition signatures, we must make it widely known. We will be advertising on conservative radio and possibly television as well as on the Internet. We MUST get this message in front of as many people as possible. Your gift today will help us launch a powerful and effective campaign to help save Jerusalem.
